Middletown fire kills dogs, cats

Middletown firefighters respond to a morning fire on Milton Road Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009 in Middletown, Ohio. Four people were in the home when the fire started and one was taken by ambulance to Atrium Medical Center. The fire claimed the life of three dogs and three cats.

Nasal H1N1 vaccine administered

The Butler County Health Department is administering the first live, attenuated intranasal (LAIV) H1N1 vaccines, a nasal spray, to health care workers aged 49 and younger at Princeton Pike Church of God on Friday, Oct. 16. The department has received 8,300 doses and expects more to come in the next few weeks.

Watch out for this bug

The Ohio Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Agriculture and Ohio State University will begin a sight-survey this December in parts of Warren, Butler and Hamilton counties in an effort to detect the Asian Longhorned Beetle. The destructive bug was found in a Mason warehouse in June.

Trees removed from Douglass Park

Trees in Douglass Park that lined Verity Parkway in Middletown, Ohio are being removed. The trees were removed because they were getting too big and were too close to the road. Branches would periodically fall into the street causing traffic problems and several people have hit the trees with their cars over the years. Twenty-one trees will replace those being cut down. The tree removal is part of a Keep Middletown Beautiful project.
