Community members gathered with local fire departments at the Fallen Firefighter's Memorial in Hamilton Friday evening September 11, 2009 for the September 11th remembrance ceremony. The Franklin Fire Department Fire Explorers program trains local youth using an application process similar to Franklin firefighters, as a way to educate them, get their foot in the door and hopefully retain them for future careers. The participants, aged 14 to 18, meet the first three Thursdays of every month and work shifts at the station. Currently, they're training for an explorer competition on Aug. 29 when they'll compete in eight events.
