Ashworth retrospect at arts center

The Middletown Arts Center will host a retrospective of Middletown artist Sam Ashworth from his days with the Armco Steel art department through his time as an independent graphic designer. It will open Friday, Nov. 13 at the center.

Area firefighters participated in a training fire Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, off State Route 123 in Turtlecreek Twp. The house was burned as a training exercise and fire departments from Turtlecreek Twp., Salem/Morrow, Harlan and Wayne Twp. were on scene.

Local cemeteries are feeling the effects of the down economy, adding more options for cremation and working with residents struggling to afford costs associated with burial. The cemeteries heavily depend on the sales of plots to fund maintenance and operations.

Trees removed from Douglass Park

Trees in Douglass Park that lined Verity Parkway in Middletown, Ohio are being removed. The trees were removed because they were getting too big and were too close to the road. Branches would periodically fall into the street causing traffic problems and several people have hit the trees with their cars over the years. Twenty-one trees will replace those being cut down. The tree removal is part of a Keep Middletown Beautiful project.
