Kings Island's 14th coaster, Firehawk, was opened in May 2007. The Firehawk was closed after a rider suffered breathing issues and later died at a Cincinnati hospital, on Saturday, Aug 8, 2009. The ride was re-opened after an inspection.

The 28th PPG Ohio Auto Kolor Downtown Saturday Nite car show took place on August 8, 2009 in Franklin. The show this year featured around 800 cars and was organized by Warren County Kustoms.
